Adirondack Regional Social Safety Network
The Adirondack social safety net involves an array of entities, including nonprofits, centers of worship, New York State agencies, families, and informal networks that provide our population with a lifeline when hard times strike. Unfortunately, the safety net often contracts in response to longstanding socioeconomic stressors and has been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic. Disruptions in connectivity and collaboration among supporting agencies can weaken the safety net precisely when its services are most needed.
In order to identify opportunities to take bold action to strengthen our regional safety net Adirondack Foundation, supported by Mother Cabrini Health Foundation and partner John Rugge Center for Community Impact, began by completing the 2024 Adirondack Regional Social Safety Network Report. This research was completed in hopes of catalyzing new discussions throughout the region that will strengthen organizations and foster collaborations that will work to reimagine the social safety net.

The Report was leveraged to bring practitioners together to consider opportunities for action. Almost 100 leaders representing organizations of all sizes, types of service delivery, and corners of the region, described a desire to examine the blueprint of service delivery and willingness to develop strategies to truly strengthen the Adirondack regional safety net.
