Community fund accepting applications to Allen Scholarship & Education Program

ESSEX — The Essex Community Fund has announced that applications are being accepted by the Lawson and Clint Allen Scholarship and Education Program at Adirondack Foundation.
“We’re committed to helping students pursue further education,” said Lawson Allen. “A student’s economic status shouldn’t be a barrier to enroll in colleges or trade schools, but the reality is that continuing education is expensive. It’s our hope to take away as many barriers as possible.”
The Allen Scholarship awards a $5,000 annual academic scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is a resident of the town of either Essex or Willsboro to provide financial assistance toward attending an accredited two or four year college, university, technical or trade school. The scholarship may renew each year, for up to three years, provided the recipient can provide evidence of working diligently, earning grades that reflect that effort, and making steady and satisfactory progress toward a degree or appropriate certificate. The deadline to apply is June 3.
Interested applicants may obtain forms from guidance counselors at Willsboro or Westport central schools, or by writing to the Essex Community Fund at P.O. Box 101, Essex, New York 12936. For more information about the Lawson and Clint Allen Scholarship, contact Nick Muller at (518) 963-8188.
The Essex Community Fund, established at Adirondack Foundation in 2003 by Essex residents, is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the town of Essex. It makes grants to support community beautification, historic preservation, culture, the arts, education, and programs for youth and senior citizens. To date, the fund has awarded more than $122,000 in grants. It has also sparked the creation of the Charlie Goff Memorial Fund and the Allen Scholarship and Education Program Fund.
